Aside from Kingston, Hanover is the smallest parish in Jamaica. It was established in 1725 and was named after the reigning monarch on the British throne, George I, who was from the House of Hanover in Germany. As one of the parishes that aren’t very popular on the island, Hanover is often not spoken about as far as the island’s charm and beauty are concerned. That however, does not mean the parish lacks the natural wonders and the vivaciousness needed to pull large amount of tourists. In fact, because the parish shares a strip with Negril, many tourists often spill over into to its borders and find themselves being intrigued by the unassuming splendor the parish possesses. Hanover is the birthplace of national hero Sir Alexander Bustamante, former Prime Minister, Percival James Patterson, Olympian Merlene Ottey and singer Judy Mowatt.
